Childrens Services

Pre-School Resource Program

Families of children with developmental disabilities often require assistance to help their preschoolers grow and gain independence before entering the educational system. This program is designed for children with delayed skills development, and those at risk of experiencing barriers to normal development. With funding from the County of Dufferin , Community Living Dufferin offers this program at no cost to children who live in Dufferin County, are attending a licensed childcare facility (licensed home or centre based) and who are aged two years until they enter the school system.

Regular visits enhance communication amongst families, caregivers and Community Living Dufferin. In partnership, they help children participate as fully as possible. Services range from assessments to skills development, referrals and recommendations.

Behaviour Intervention Program

Family and caregivers of children with developmental disabilities often request behaviour therapy. CLD administers this program which provides parents with funding upon approval and a list of professionals who support individuals with Developmental Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorders. These professional service providers assist families in dealing with behavioral concerns with their son/daughter within the home, childcare and early learning environments setting. Paid for by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, this is a short term program (about six sessions).

Children & Youth Summer Opportunities

This program is in keeping with Community Living Dufferin’s philosophy that people with developmental disabilities can integrate fully into the community. It supports children (aged 4 to 14) to attend regular summer recreational programs offered in Dufferin County. Parents select a program and apply to CLD for the assistance of an inclusion counselor. Each child is provided with one on one assistance which supports them to partake to the best of their ability.
